Accelerated Reader Levels:.09 - 1.9 | 2.0 - 2.9 | 3.0 - 3.9 | 4.0 - 4.9 | 5.0 and up What is Accelerated Reader? Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading program designed to encourage students to read books from a variety of genres. Accelerated Reader (A.R.) works for students of all grade and ability levels. The program reports give teachers and students immediate feedback about individual reading progress and provides reinforcement in a way that is both motivational and fun. All students in Grades 2-5 participate. First Grade students participate with the teacher's direction. The children simply select a book, read the book and take a computerized test related to the book. Points are awarded based on how well the student does on the test. The following goals and prizes have been established:
Every student is encouraged to meet his or her grade level goal. Each student who meets that goal by May 1st is invited to attend a lunchtime picnic in mid-May. Each school's AR list is different depending on the tests that school purchases. You can use these lists to target books at the public library to further encourage your child to become a fluent reader.
